What is Travel Agent Insurance?
Travel agents share many similar risk exposures to Tour Operators and require similar covers in many cases.
The liability risk for Travel Agents is generally slightly more contingent than that of a Tour Operator but Agents do need to carefully consider the impact of the Package Travel Regulations 2018 to ensure that they have appropriate cover in place to meet their exposure to risk.
Travel Risk Professionals can advise on what insurance covers should be considered to provide the best protection.

What our clients say...
Who we work with?
We work with small start-ups through to nationally-recognised brands. Because of this, our innovative approach to all types of travel and tour operators enables us to provide a first-class service in a crisis which is when you need us most.
We provide a wide range of Travel Agent & Tour Operator Insurances from Professional Liability through to 24/7 Crisis Response. Our team boasts a wealth of experience, and we have our own in-house Liability scheme backed by leading Underwriters. Following the revision to the Package Travel Regulations in 2018, many companies who traditionally always viewed themselves as travel agents, either in full or in part, became tour operators or principals overnight.
Whilst the revised regulations were laudable from a consumer protection perspective, it did mean that some Travel Agents had immediately incurred more liability exposure than before. In the past, many travel agents have looked at their exposure to risk and gone down the Professional Indemnity and Office Insurance route. There was absolutely nothing wrong with this, but typically it would not provide any protection against package travel bookings made against travel agents for injury, illness or worse.
Our relationships with quality industry professionals.
We have built strong relationships with a large number of quality industry professionals from Lawyers through to Crisis Responders. We have the ability to provide strong, instant responses in the most traumatic events. This includes terrorist acts, which provides clients peace of mind and also enhances their own duty of care to consumers.
In addition to supporting clients, we are also active speakers on the Travel Industry lecture circuit. We regularly provide educational lectures across the country. Generally, we find that many businesses are misinformed or unaware about what cover they need. A common mistake is that a Tour Operator Insurance policy will be enough to protect their business. Through this network we are able to better understand and help the industry.
We are corporate members of the Institute of Travel & Tourism. We are also Insurance Advisors to the Latin American Tour Association (LATA) and the African Travel & Tourism Association (ATTA).

What are the key insurance considerations for Travel Agents?
Travel Agents therefore should look very closely at the travel agent insurance coverage they currently have in place to ensure that it protects them from liability assumed as principal in package bookings under the Package Travel Regulations 2018. A standard office or commercial property insurance policy provides a broad scope of protection, but Travel Agents do need that extra level of professional liability insurance and errors and omissions insurance (E&O insurance) that our specialist liability products can provide.
Travel Risk Professionals will be more than happy to discuss your exposures to liability risks, including booking errors, negligence, and data breach risks, and how best you can look to protect yourself, your agency, and your customers. When you look at the average cost of even a minor injury claim or financial losses due to errors or omissions, this could be the most cost effective 5 minutes ever spent paying an annual premium…
What is Travel Agent Insurance?
It provides comprehensive insurance coverage and liability protection tailored for travel agents, especially those acting as principals under the Package Travel Regulations 2018—covering risk exposures similar to tour operators and other travel advisors. This includes protection against lawsuits arising from errors, omissions, and negligence in providing professional services.
Do travel agents have higher risk exposure under the 2018 regulations?
Yes. When agents sell package travel, they may be legally treated as principals, increasing their liability exposure under these regulations. This means Canadian travel agencies and travel agencies in other regions must ensure their insurance coverage includes professional indemnity insurance and errors and omissions insurance to protect against lawsuits and financial losses.
What types of coverage are available?
Typical modules include:
- Public Liability
- Professional Indemnity Insurance and E&O Insurance Policy
- Employers Liability
- Professional Indemnity
- Travel Agent Liability
